Closing Out 2019, the "Year of Risks"

Updated: Nov 24, 2020

I have dubbed 2019 to be the "Year of Risks" for Celtic Raven Studio. Let's just say I took a bunch of artistic, emotional and financial risks to expand my art studio and presence in the community. There were highs and lows and time managing acrobatics that would make a gymnast proud. I expanded my show calendar to Flagstaff and Prescott, and met my business goals. I am very thankful for this year and grateful to everyone who has supported my art.

There was one mishap in the studio where I accidentally broke a mug that was being used to hold tools. I threw my arms a little too wide and "Smash"! Ceramics did what they do best when meeting a cement floor. It reminded me of the ephemeral nature of my work, disguised in solid stone. It reminded me of the similar principle in our lives.

There are traditions of bringing salt into a new home, so you never hunger. Of making a new broom every year and dismantling the old, bringing a mental and spiritual close to the year.

It is time for me to let go of the "Year of Risks". For all the joys and sorrow; it is time to break that mug and start making new wear.

The "Year of Repayment" 2020's cup will be in the group I'm creating now. It will be decorated and set aside to accumulate the year's wealth. Come December, it will be offered to the universe and the work will start again. Releasing what was done, ready to start anew.

p.s. Don't cry for the dragon. He is very popular, so there will be many, many more.
