Artist Statement:
Throwing clay is like practicing a martial art kata. Hands in motion, shaping the clay; subtle changes exacting dramatic results. There is a push and pull, a fine line between lifting the walls of a pot and completely destroying it. Knowing you can always wedge more.
I am drawn to bold colors, woodcuts, and whimsy. Everything I make has a slap-dash vibe on the surface, contrasting with the precision of the form. My goal is for people to be energized when they use my pots. I want them to feel the evidence of my process in the throw lines; gazing through layers of underglaze and screen prints.
